Episode 5- The Car Seat Chronicles at Terminal B

It was 4:47 AM. My black SUV was purring like a panther outside a two-story colonial in Andover. I was scheduled for a 5:15 AM pickup to Logan Airport: a family of four heading to Disney. Easy ride, I thought. Rookie mistake.

Mom opened the door with a diaper bag, two juice boxes, and the kind of look only a mother catching a 7:00 AM flight with toddlers can pull off. Dad followed, dragging a car seat like it was the cross he never knew he’d carry.

“Do you guys have an extra booster seat?” she asked, eyeing the Luxe logo like I was TSA.

“We do. Complimentary,” I replied, like a black car version of Mary Poppins.

She exhaled so hard I thought she’d fog the windshield from the porch.

Two car seats, four bags, one stuffed Olaf, and one panic attack later, we were on I-93. Halfway to Logan, the toddler began negotiations for his second banana. I had to respect the hustle. The kid had range.

By Terminal B, we were early. Mom looked shocked. Dad looked reborn. The toddler looked like he just finished basic training.

Before they left, the dad turned to me and said, “You ever think about writing a book?”

I just smiled and thought: you’re reading it now.
